    Follow up: One thing that is astounding about Americans and their belief in the power of litigation is that they will pursue court settlement even when it’s clearly to their detriment. The idea of confronting your enemy and arguing for your version of the story is too enticing.

    for those that don't know how GiveWell works - it's a meta charity that allocates funds to other charities based on goal of achieving as much impact as possible (defined as saving / extending lives) per dollar. process of allocation is evidence-backed and very rigorous
