Just sent out a Solarwinds special of CyberWeekly. Nearly 6000 words and links to 12 bits of further reading. Read it and subscribe here. (Most weeks aren't this long and comprehensive!)

I once managed to send Cyberweekly #8 twice because early on I wasn’t tracking it very well. Today’s newsletter set itself as #7, which is going to make recovering it ... fun

Things I’ve learnt today. Even on 1 person projects, you can’t have enough unit tests When you write code that arranges by “last updated”, things get funky in prod when you export and import data in bulk

Cyberweekly today is delayed due to dual issues. 1. I rewrote the software behind where I compile my links. Works in dev, but fell over in prod when I launched the newsletter. 2. I left it until 10 minutes before I had to make Sunday roast to launch 🤦🏻‍♂️

It is false, and it has been banned. As far as I can tell, the advertisers claim affiliate fees for successful clicks and installs. So it is worth it for them, even if the user uninstalls.

Those adverts on Twitter. You know the ones, with the puzzle containing lava, water and gold coins etc. What’s the deal there? Not one advert actually has that game. And I’d play that game; but if I click through to see a crap game, what gives? Is it false advertising? Why?

Of course, by community, I mean “Internet personalities” which doesn’t represent the real world community any more than the conference speaker does, or the podcaster personalities do.

The communities are fun, but US focused, so timings often don’t fit with my schedule. There’s not yet a good “digital transformer” community, and only a nascent cybersecurity community. But the innovation/VC community is on there and super interesting to listen to.

I got clubhouse a few weeks ago and I’m kind of torn on it. I love the live audience aspects that allow speakers to bring someone up to contribute to what is otherwise talkradio/podcast. But having to listen to things live at specific times is just not how my brain/life works

Huh. I joined Twitter 13 years ago today, so back in 2008. I wish Twitter had shown me my first few tweets so I could see what it was like

Amazing thread. This is true not just for teaching but for meetings and for talks as well. I don’t know how to fix the conference talk though, I always feel like I’m talking into empty space and my talks suffer for it.

Discovered that the Google accounts that I pay for, for my kids, are not able to use Google’s FamilyLink, are not able to join a Google classroom and so on. To use those services, I would need to create a free gmail account instead of the managed accounts. Why do I pay again?

’s thread on the bullshit article on the $50 vax website is dead right in identifying both the complexity of building govtech and the continued complete lack of understanding mainstream media has for tech...

I’m taking a week off of work for half term. I have just ended up sending 2 separate emails with notes for my team, both of which are about 6 pages long. Apparently brevity is apparently something that I think happens to other people!
