I disagree with what you say, but will defend to death your right to say it. But that doesn't mean I want to waste my time listening to you.

Signing off to rest, read and recharge (I've never liked New Years Eve). Whether you're resting, partying or something in between, have a good evening. See you all in 2019 for more high fashion and web standards get-off-my-lawn-ing. You're all totez adorbz. xxx

Mucking about with GitHub and listening to Pet Shop Boys loud to fend off the melancholia that New Year always gives me.

Firefox with ads on New Tab Page - doesn't seem to send info to 3rd parties, but to turn it off, uncheck 'snippets' in preferences.

Just been to the police station with Simon, my pet snail. He was coming back from the pub last night and two tortoises mugged him. The police asked him to describe them but apparently it all happened too fast.

Serves me right. I'd been doing well with the continuous deployment from GitHub to the Smashing Site, so confidently pushed to Master on Saturday between Xmas and New Year. Deploy failed. In classical Greece, this over-confidence was known as "GitHubris".

I write a talk especially for each year. They have released the video of my talk from 2018 which is mostly about sizing and alignment in CSS Grid. Watch it here and find slides and resources at

Pontificating about web standards to the great and the good of the Birmingham web scene. Or those still standing after an 11 hour pub crawl. (I showed up 2 hours ago.)

Tidied up a recent recording of a song I wrote in my teens when I was a big Buzzcocks/ Undertones fan. Bass is guide only, whole thing needs mixing.

If you don't know of Facebook Container, here's the details: . Here's the splendid Grid Inspector: I also appreciate the much lighter RAM use than Chromium browsers; I like a quiet laptop! .

Part of my switch is for 'meta' reasons; protecting , and protecting my privacy. Container tabs for Facebook is brilliant, and I trust them not to misuse my data. But also, with Servo etc, it's a bloody fast browser and dev tools for CSS Grid etc are indispensable.

Switching to Firefox as my default desktop browser, because we need to protect Mozilla now the world's going Chromium. But phone browser is still Opera Mobile because when I zoom on small text, it reflows it to avoid horizontal scrolling - a killer feature for an Oldie like me.
