    Some of the hospitals in Toronto have done incredible things in the pandemic, and they're still carrying weight when others don't

    💉 news: Some Toronto seniors 80+ and Indigenous adults (depending on which area of the city they live in) can start pre-registering for COVID vaccines. It's not an appointment, but a step towards that:

    As of 5 pm Tues., Ontario's 34 regional health units are reporting another 982 confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths. The 7-day avg is 🔽 11 to 1,135 cases/day and 🔽 to 15.9 deaths/day.

    25% is a lot, and would represent a doubling time of what, 10 days? Which would be faster than last week, when it was 12 days, and would be expected to accelerate with reopenings

    Ontario has updated its VOC screening data with numbers from the weekend. The telltale spike gene is being detected in >25% of confirmed cases. (The growth in this % positive is outpacing its own 7-day avg — 22.6% — so I don't think that's particularly useful)

    Brazil- a younger population with an unbelievably high proportion of the population infected (70%) and in spite of the younger population-lower IFR, devastating numbers of deaths and overrun hospitals and morgues. No herd immunity yet.
