Keynes predicted that gains in efficiency would ensure that people would work three hours a day, *to feel useful*. The efficiency gains happened but the hours are constant. Constant hours theorem: the bullshitness of jobs expand to cover the available free hours.

People could totally work 3hr a day if they wanted, lots of zero-sum games we play are the reason they do not, that is what keeps the hours constant (simplifying, also people like 'stuff', so work more to buy stuff)
