Because the infant could've died I assume

Yeah they're just telling us how many people could have been there this morning. It's context

So how many people show up to a Bris?

Lots of people, my bris had at least 60 so you can imagine the risk there

I appreciate the info. Just seemed like an oddly specific way to try and highlight the amount of people. Just saying “a bris was scheduled” is a weird way of saying “there may have been increased activity due to events”.

Had it been a baptism ceremony at a Christian Church would we be questioning why it was being reported?

Absolutely? It just seems like a weird additional fact. So yeah. If they said “someone is being baptized” I would still think it’s an odd way to highlight attendance. Why are you trying to insinuate im questioning it because of the religion? Im an atheist liberal hahah

No insinuation intended. You comment made me think. I believe it just reads odd because it's probably never been reported before. Why would it?

My apologies then, tone often gets misconstrued reading text. But yeah it just seemed like an odd detail, mainly in comparison to the other details that felt appropriate. Like “here’s how many people gather, what times services started, and a child was getting a circumcision”

Media sensationalism. Circumcision is a hot-button topic nowadays, so anything additional they can put into the report of this horrific violence they will. It's pretty well established that the shooter would have attacked no matter what was happening at this synagogue.
