I have to agree with all of the points here. I think we can look at RTS as a genre and quite simply notice a reverse correlation between the success of an RTS and its complexity. Simplifying RTS and "casualizing" mechanics seems to be not what the majority of yhe audience wants.

As you said though, some of Axiom's changes do not causalize the mechanics, but rather shift the focus to another form of management, which may or may not be slightly easier to execute.
