Grateful that this dangerous bill is dead for the year. Grateful that decency and PEOPLE POWER prevailed. But let’s keep fighting for a community where proposals about laws to run over folks are not even a possibility anymore. Let’s continue to “get in the way” of injustice. ✊🏾🖤

And here’s Rep. @brotherjones_ reading @nhannahjones “1619 Project” behind @GovBillLee during his (highly misleading) inauguration speech. Under Lee Tennessee has passed both an “anti-CRT” law and a “divisive concepts” bill — “leading” in whitewashing history. #TeachTheTruth

At Gov. Bill Lee’s inauguration where the theme is “Tennessee Leading the Nation.” We know that Tennessee is leading the nation in all the wrong ways— voter suppression, poverty wages, incarceration, defunding public education, and denying folks healthcare. We deserve better.

Senator Blackburn, My father’s “vision” was that we eradicate racism, militarism & poverty. Deconstructing systems that deny equity in access, safety & opportunity does not = judging white people for being white. I invite you to study: thekingcenterinstitute.org #MLKDay #MLK

Today, we remember a man committed to the vision that people should be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. #MLKDay

Before tweeting MLK Day quotes tomorrow, I hope my colleagues in the legislature will share in action and sign-on to the policies we can enact to truly honor his legacy: protect voting rights, pass living wages, expand healthcare as a human right, and abolish the death penalty.

This is why I voted for Second day of his term, and he’s already sending sincere, thoughtful email responses to his constituents. Kudos. There is hope.
Email response from Tennessee Representative Justin Jones with subject line: “Welcome! Please oppose HB0048 & SB0087“

I'm angry and disheartened. @SenBoWatson and @WilliamLamberth of Hixson and Cottontown, TN have introduced legislation that will strip away Nashville's right to make our own choice about our council and local representation. This is when it's gets personal. 1/

As the Governor’s admin prepares its budget proposals for the upcoming session, I hope we’ll see serious investment in climate resiliency/ infrastructure across our state. The climate crisis is here and extreme weather events will only worsen.

Last week the Davidson County Delegation met with the mayor and admin to discuss local issues as we prepare for the upcoming legislative session. Too often local govs have been preempted by extreme state politicians when it comes to policies that advance our communities forward.

Great idea, — lobbyists should absolutely ID themselves. can’t wait to see who votes against this obviously sensible anti-corruption legislation. Do legislators next!

The public has a right to know who’s in the rooms influencing policy at the People’s House and which special interests are visiting lawmakers’ offices. That’s why I’m looking at filing legislation to require lobbyists in TN to wear badges with their clients. Transparency matters.
