I don’t see how cloud computing services for oil and gas exploration are part of the solution, since we have ample reserves already.

Microsoft is a global company servicing more than just the USA and is a business at the end of the day. If a customer is willing to spend money, why would they decline?

Renewables aren't ready to take over, but economics will drive innovation there - esp. if oil is harder to get. Oil & gas are req'd for other things, like plastics, but we should be finding alternatives there too. IMO, we should strive to stop extracting, not accelerate it.

Agree entirely. I'm from a region of Canada where Oil & Gas exploitation propped our economy up for the better part of half of a century. There's now a huge scramble to diversify 30 years too late. Extraction will occur, whether it's on NA soil or abroad.
