This young woman reminds me of a (college) student of mine who said in front of the whole class that slaves were paid minimum wage and that they “voted” to fight against the Union in the Civil War. She also had never heard of time zones.

I mean, there IS a complicated story about Nancy Green and how she made and used her wealth. But the presentation of the image was absolutely derogatory and this Turning Point person does not get it all. Nancy Green, born a slave, was recruited to stump for pancake syrup, her arrival heralded by large billboards featuring the caption, "I'se in town, honey." She died in 1923, and was buried in an unmarked pauper's grave.
