BREAKING: Victoria, BC’s new Council has just passed its “#MissingMiddle Housing Initiative” by 6-3 vote. It permits houseplexes, corner townhouses & heritage infill in low density zones. A good move for more flexible ground-oriented #GentleDensity and more nimble neighbourhoods.

The City of Victoria, BC has passed the “Missing Middle Housing Initiative” eliminating single family only zoning, legalizing up to 6-units of housing, by- right, city-wide.

The top 9 most expensive communities to rent in are all in Ontario and British Columbia. Which are the two provinces with the lowest housing supply per capita. Probably just a coincidence.

The yearly rental report by CMHC is out. It once again shows Vancouver with the highest rent for purpose-built units in the country, and by a wide margin. Three of the four most expensive Metro areas in Canada are in B.C.

Your average sprawly suburban area simply does not produce enough tax revenue to pay for the vast maintenance costs imposed by roads & parking lots. They are all dependent for survival on the cities they constantly denigrate.

Have been saying this for years. Walkable places are cheaper to build, and in high demand, but we don’t build enough of them so they’re more expensive than car places, because economics.
