I haven’t been as disturbed researching and writing a piece since I wrote about an unrepentant sex offender years ago. Spending even a few hours going through Incel forums was horrendous. These are dangerous and unhinged people. I don’t feel sorry for them, I feel revolted.

These men feel they are at war with us and most particularly with women. They are the most extreme version of male entitlement — many of them feel the state should give them girlfriends to prevent violent attacks. Misogyny ends up here. This is the ultimate end point.

I grew up online but I also grew up in the theatre, among gay men and women. My heroes weren’t wholly male nor did I grow up in a home without a father or with defined roles along gender lines. My dad does the cooking, my mum does the finances. It matters.

This is really good, Mic. I was struggling to understand what is meant by
#incel. I’m not now. -
I’m sorry I have introduced you to this. It is bleak.
-
Don’t apologise. I find it revolting, but I genuinely want to be informed and this was clear and concise.
-
I found it a real slog to go through their forums and stuff today. I worry for my honorary niece and my friends’ daughters. Stuff like this genuinely makes me not want to bring children into the world.
-
I’m not surprised at all you found it hard. I’ve got a younger sister of 18 and four nieces, so.... brrrrr.

Absolutely excellent piece Mic, although horrifying of course. Thanks so much for writing it, I’ll be using it with my sixth formers
-
Thank you. Appreciate you saying that.

Excellent piece, Mic. The whole movement was new to me until today. Don't intend to delve much deeper.
-
I do not recommend it. The cesspit is deep.

This is an excellent and sobering article. I’m just so sorry you had to suffer the disturbing experience of wading through those forums in order to write it.
-
I hated doing it but women who have to deal with these men have it so much worse. I’m sorry it exists.
-
Very true. Worst of all, I find myself worrying whether any men myself or my friends have rejected in the past have ended up here. Of course it’s no fault of ours. Just goes to show how deep society’s pushed internalised misogyny down the throats of women.
