    It’s important to remember that when jihadis misrepresent the truth, their primary target of deception may not be western analysts. They are probably misrepresenting facts for some more prosaic reason.

    This is a good warning about “fetishizing” internal jihadi documents. These guys lie for various reasons, especially internal politics of the jihadi movement. See sections of my book (The Master Plan) on Khalid Mashadhani and Abu Sulayman al-Utaybi.

    Scott Pelley interviewed Egypt's president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The Egyptians objected to some of the Q's. CBS says "60 Minutes" was "contacted by the Egyptian ambassador shortly after and told the interview could not be aired." It airs this Sunday.

    Trump offers an excuse for the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan that even the Russians don’t make. What accounts for his pro-Putin orientation? That is a question we must hope Mueller will answer. But it’s hard to think of an innocuous explanation. Me:

    The vetting for the future control of Manbij began in early December. This was part of the Roadmap. The threats for east of the river followed, in support of the read out from the last WG. Irony may turn out to be that TR escalation led the call, which hastened the US withdrawal
