If you’re looking for something more to do: if you have a chance to sign up for National Lawyers Guild Legal Observer volunteer training, and if it’s a role you’re able to do, I recommend it. It’s just one of many kinds of helpful things, but it’s good.

This is neat and reminds me of Invisible 5, an audio tour designed to be listened to while driving the freeway between SF and LA: - “the stories of people and communities fighting for environmental justice along the I-5 corridor”.

Code for America is hiring. Help us clear weed convictions off of people's records. Help us feed more hungry California families. Help us keep people out of jail for bullshit.

This is a smart thread full of realistic failure modes that are all a zillion times scarier than my green card being lost in the mail:

Anyone who remembers 1980s queer history, or doesn't, needs to read this. And makes me wonder: how much evidence of today's movements won't even get stuffed in an attic, now so much communication is online?

I saw a mention of a “Sacred Harp” community group and looked it up, and it appears to be an American singing tradition with no actual harp involved at all! But it’s still interesting:

This is a great story from a obituary for a Mission muralist, Tony Machado: - I’ve been inside that Bank of America but didn’t look closely at the mural, so now I need to go look again!

“With Rios and Montez, Machado also painted Homage to Siqueiros in 1974 above the tellers’ area inside the Bank of America building at 23rd and Mission. Though commissioned by a bank, Cordova describes Homage as a “flagrantly anti-capitalism” work that “undermined their corporate sponsor.” Today, the anti-capitalist mural is insured for more than $1 million.”

Looking forward to “The History, Legacy, and Continued Impact of the Mujeres Muralistas” at on July 19: - their work and influence are all around where I live and so good! (Here’s a current favorite from Balmy Alley.)

Life hack: carry a black sharpie in your purse at all times. Not only is it surprisingly useful, it means you're always able to mark over N*zi graffiti and *dentity *vropa stickers when you see them! Seen these at least twice in the bay area recently. Grab your sharpies.

I would like a YouTube playlist that sequences “How It’s Made” videos making things with corresponding Red Hot Nickel Ball videos melting the things that were made. This would be very relaxing.

Okay I'm going to go on a bit of a rant about complexity in public policy. Working on SNAP (food stamps) for a number of years now I've seen just how complex this program is, but also how that complexity creates significant costs to the people whose lives it seeks to improve.

Because if your group/org/company puts up a colorful icon, also put up something about how you build that into your practices and principles. <3
