Sir Iain Duncan Smith said on the Today programme that only 15% of people in the UK who start work at entry level rise above that level during their working life. He claimed this was the worst figure in the developed world. Both claims are incorrect.

A spokesman for Nissan Europe said: "We deny such a contingency plan exists. We’ve modelled every possible ramification of Brexit and the fact remains that our entire business both in the UK and in Europe is not sustainable in the event of WTO tariffs.” Is the only truth.

My last tweet before bed on Nissan. We should not take anything that one part of Nissan says unofficially as being indicative of a whole company stance. Like many Japanese companies, it's riven with factions + coup attempts.

I suppose the current story about Nissan having a plan to double down on Sunderland could be from the anti Renault faction, trying to make going it alone work as per this story from 3 weeks ago.

Nissan warns sudden changes in the trading system will have a serious impact on British manufacturing. President of Japanese Chamber of Commerce says it's unlikely there will be the same level of trade between UK and EU as before even if FTA is concluded. 3/3

Japanese companies in the UK are "calmly" accepting Brexit - because they've got until Dec 2020 + most are already prepared. Financial services have already obtained licences in Germany/Netherlands.1/2

When income rises, consumers are less inclined to reuse products. This is just one of many challenges hindering the move to a circular economy. Our new report is out now

ONS also says hours worked rose 0.5% in Sep-Nov. With GDP rising only 0.1%, this means productivity fell. Might be partly a Brexit effect (uncertainty cut output but encouraged labour hoarding). But it reinforces the picture of long-term stagnation.
