That made this 210 lb guy cry. Babies are not criminals. My family has been in this country for over 300 years. This is not America. @SRuhle

This is America. It's not what many of us aspire to be, but this is unequivocally us and has been since long before we were a nation. Continuing to deny or downplay in any way this truth will only result in a pause, not an end, to this type of barbaric oppression.
-
Yeah, I know, I've been paying attention for over 50 years because I choose to. I subscribe to your "pause" empasse but now everything is recorded forever... permanently ...and this provides a platform in which to learn from and not make these rediculous mistakes ever again.
-
The phrase "This is not America" must be struck from our language for centuries, at least. And I have lived this for 60 years because I've had no choice because This is America

Ricardo. I'm also a musician. The axiom I reference in that retort is this:https://genius.com/David-bowie-this-is-not-america-lyrics …
-
I'm familiar with this, and it is much too subtle and nuanced to be put out there without full context as to its dark irony.
-
Most of us have done horrible things in our short time on this planet and then laid awake at night mumbling to ourselves "this is not me". Denial is how we cope with the atrocities that the USA has done in "our" name.
-
And those of us who've worked to become better only did so after acknowledging our true selves, in my experience. I've seen some say the words and go through motions, yet never fundamentally change.

I’m 80 years old, I lived in a heavily bombed UK city as a child in WW2. Saw desperation. I have when younger been a place of safety foster carer & seen lots of bad things. But this, & things that happened in UK..Windrush.. I find very hard to stomach. This is not a world we want

"Tender Age Shelters"? Sounds like a place in a meat processing plant. Who among us now think that the United States of America can't become like Nazi Germany?

@maddow , I listen to your show via podcast every morning. I survive on your dedicated reporting, detailed explanation and amazing ability to put a story into context. Your tears only prove how amazing you are. Cry. Cry for the babies. Cry for yourself. Cry for us all. -
As it keeps going on... from the outside, its hard to see that its "not accepted". You are a democracy right? So this must be what your majority wants? Sincerely, the Outside world

Is it also related to this: Pulling out of the Human rights council does not mean you can ignore human rights.https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/us-un-human-rights-council-leaves-trump-withdraw-nikki-haley-a8407151.html …

Saudi Arabia is on the UN Human Rights council. They are slaughering Yemenis and behead hundreds of Saudis per year. They just beheaded a group of teenage girls for flirting. Good talk. Great council...
-
Having Saudi Arabia as role model might not be your smartest choice.
-
Soooooo yeah, UN Human Rights Council is bullshit

Beeing outside means you dont have a say. Every influence you can have is a advantage.
