Trump is probably just venting about "credentials" -- remember when he said NBC's station licenses must be challenged?! Nothing happened, of course -- but his anti-media messages still have consequences (https://cnnmon.ie/2I8iJEi )https://snpy.tv/2K6B712

1) Here’s why that doesn’t work. Even with lowest ratings
@cnn can keep small enough partisan viewership and maintain profitablilty. Existing bias is then essential to existence. And you must admit CNN viewership as it relates to other cable news is way down. -
Replace "CNN" with "Fox News" and your tweet is accurate.
-
Fox News viewership is not down. CNN is. As Brian suggests it must be the viewers holding CNN accountable.pic.twitter.com/h4aAququpg

No there has to be an AMA like most other professions with individual accountability. Doctors can be sanctions, lawyers disbarred. Journalists need that. It’ll stop fake news sites, and make it hard to call real news ‘fake’
-
If this were to happen then 90% of right wing news sources would go away overnight. So yeah, I’m in favor. But when the right wingers cry over it, and claim bias, are you going to be the one to point out why?
-
Of course. That’s the point. Infowars can claim ‘journalism’ and CNN can be accused of fake news because the standards of journalism and ethics is currently set and executed by corporate entities with a profit motive, instead of a separate rate governing board.
-
And who would appoint the leaders of this Ministry of Truth?
-
Same way we have Board Certified doctors, and lawyers with Bar Association credentials. We need an association for the journalism profession that sets and governs standards.
-
So, zeitgeist.
-
It's actually an idea that has been brought up. I don't think it's such a bad thought to have, but my field seems pretty divided over it. A lot of journalists feel it couldn't be implemented without going against decades of prior restraint case law. They have a fair point.
-
Ah! A sensible response :) It’s my experience that “can’t be implemented” is a common claim among people resistant to change. However, I firmly believe the necessity created by the explosion of bogus ‘journalism’ makes it important to figure out how, despite constraints.

2) “Media reporters and managers” That’s like a tobacco or big pharma suggesting they will regulate themselves. There is no incentive (in fact disincentive) for accountability within big media - only as it relates to ratings or profit - not bias. Thus
@cnn has no accountability.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
