A "post-truth era in American politics?" Maybe not. I'm trying for some optimism in this next segment with @EricaRHill... coming up momentarily...

In my own personal experience, we may be screwed. It’s quite shocking the amount of people that have their own “facts” and won’t let in anything to the contrary. And then surround themselves with people who believe similarly, which then confirms their beliefs. Scary times...

I am writing about this topic. Absolutely we are in that era. Ask any average person outside the DC press club about politics and you’ll see quickly the tangible effects of disinfo: confusion, disorientation, flooded with false narratives until exhaustionhttps://thoughtcrimemedia.net/adammantine/welcome-to-the-post-truth-era …

2/ even avid politicos like myself are having trouble keeping track and remembering. Average people have tuned out. This is psyops: a war to control our minds and manipulate public opinion. To muddy the water until people say “nobody knows what is true anymore”

3/ conspiracies and conspiratorial thinking have gone mainstream and have infected our public discourse like a sickness. A mass shift away from reason based belief systems is a trademark of said era. The smartphone is a portal into our minds. It makes us all vulnerable to disinfo

4/ Knowledge is power. But what informs our knowledge? Information. And where do people get their info now? Smartphones. He who controls information controls our knowledge, who pushes disinfo warps one’s worldview. Let me ask you: have smartphones not become ubiquitous?

5/ Fake News gets more clicks. It makes more money. It attracts our attention more so than “real news”. Real-seeming content passes for the truth. It’s hard to tell the difference. It has the same heuristics online as valid news. And all it takes is impressions from headlines.

6/ The post-truth era is a see-saw between two paths: one of truth and one of falseness, fairness, deception. How the masses react to what is happening will determine our future. It’s up to us to educate ourselves and educate others about the war for their minds /fin
