A release of information is signed by the patient, not the doctor.
-
If you read the article it says that the dr did not receive signed forms. The headline in this tweet is too vague. Makes it sound like the doctor didn’t sign them, but that’s not the case.
-
Not just vague, flat out wrong. The whole premise of the tweet is that the action was wrong because doctor didn’t sign a release required by HIPAA.
-
Agreed. The tweet is confusing and poorly written at best. But the article is clear.

The patient is supposed to sign a HIPPA release for copies of the records to be given by the doctor to any other individual. The originals of the records are, in any case, to be retained. I gather the bodyguard was convincing.

If doctor didn't have a Trump-signed HIPAA release on file, then medical records cannot legally be released to anyone. Did Trump think he could just send his "people" over to get it just because he's Trump? More evidence Trump believes he's above the law.

to get his OWN mediical records??????
-
That is how it works. You don’t get to walk in and take them without signing releases. And you certainly don’t get to send thugs to take them.

The doctor would not sign a release. The patient would. It's the patient's choice where records go. And it's HIPAA. And this knowledge is HIPAA 101.
