It's only counter-programming if the networks air Donald Trump's campaign rally. Hopefully they learned their lesson in 2016.

You’re right, only giving media attention to one political party is the right idea. No way that could go wrong.

So while everybody is laughing and having a good time at the dinner, Trump will be telling fairy tales to deluded people in Michigan.

Since it’s a “campaign rally”, will CNN exercise the equal time rule? Will they ignore it unless there’s official policy being announced? At what point will networks stop giving him free time? It was a mistake in 2016, it’ll be a mistake in 2018 and it’ll be a mistake in 2020.

why do I get the sense that the only result of this 4/28 Trump rally will be Trump creating a bad headline for himself that lasts week when he could have just stayed home watching Judge Janine and eating hamburgers and ice cream

Media, including @CNN and @MSNBC should NOT televise it. For once, have some media integrity. This is how Spanky won, media fell all over every word he said, covered every single rally. It's disgusting.

Televise the whole thing, just because it's him? Oh, hell no; you're right on that. But the legit media MUST cover it, and bring us whatever their trusted editors deem newsworthy. It's that integrity thing.
