Public pressure works better on companies than it does on government. Starbucks is closing stores for bias training. Dicks stopped selling assault rifles. Dozens of companies pulled ads from Laura Ingraham. What if those companies made Nov 6 a holiday so workers could vote?

Cool! This is great. I wonder if this is also a question of timing. 2018 public outrage is much more powerful and targeted than 2012-era outrage was. Companies seem terrified of being at the wrong end of a twitter mob. Maybe it could work now in a way that it didn't work then?

Hope so. Since we asked "@WhyTuesday?" at @TEDTalks there have been many proposals for a voting holiday & Weekend Voting Acts introduced but no dice. Still millions who have the opportunity to *only* vote the Tuesday after the first Monday in November.https://youtu.be/9WvoGlQ7zH8

It's crazy. But at this rate, it seems more plausible to get companies to give employees the day off (or a few hours off) than to change the day. Remember when everyone went crazy in 2014 when Macy's was forcing employees to work on Thanksgiving?

Yes! @NormOrnstein has also long advocated another great idea. Get big-box stores like Walmart to operate the types of "vote centers" proven to increase turnout in places like Colorado.https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/four-things-the-district-can-try-to-send-election-turnout-through-the-roof/2014/02/21/6ae5efe6-9365-11e3-83b9-1f024193bb84_story.html?utm_term=.ea10af399e0d …
