Facebook users are Facebook’s product, not its customers. As long as this is Facebook’s business model and execution thereof, nothing will change. There is no financial incentive to protect the privacy of its users, err, products.

If you have evidence Obama violated the terms of service or the law, present it. Otherwise, you’re arguing that robbing a bank and withdrawing money front it are the same.

So im not entirely sure why there is such an uproar from the media now, when it was known in 2012 already and lauded as a genius stroke. Does that not seem biased to you?

The issue is not data analysis. It’s the violation of the terms of service by CA and the allegations that the data was provided to Russia. What Obama did was data analysis and micro-targeting. Those are not the problematic parts of the CA story.

The campaign boasted that more than a million people downloaded the app, which, given an average friend-list size of 190, means that as many as 190 million had at least some of their Facebook data vacuumed up by the Obama campaign — without their knowledge or consent.

The editorial does claim that but provides no evidence. If the terms of service were violated, present that evidence.

So, if I was befriended with someone in 2012 and he used the App from the Obama Party, they had my information, without my consent. Did they sell that Info or give it to a foreign company? I don´t know.

“I don’t know” is the operative part. An editorial is just an opinion, it’s not investigative reporting. Somebody thinks Obama did the same as CA in 2012. Without evidence that it’s true, so what?
