Sure, what the president says is newsworthy -- but 75 minutes of live coverage while he bloviates, insults and makes false statements? No way. My column herehttps://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/live-coverage-of-a-pennsylvania-rally-was-another-free-ad-for-trumps-favorite-candidate-himself/2018/03/13/e27e46de-26b4-11e8-874b-d517e912f125_story.html?utm_term=.a98bca93bc34 …

It's not a Presidential event, it's a partisan political performance, like street theater, your network covers it for the outrage and ratings. It has damaged our country.
-
It would be interesting to list all of the Presidential speeches of Bush, Obama and Trump and list the amount of live time and commentary that CNN has given to them. An interesting pattern might appear. Let's see if CNN makes that info easy to access...

The problem is with the fact that presidential events are news now only because Donald Trump is the president. Bush and Obama did not have their campaign rally speeches aired in full live on CNN, Trump does.
-
if you think that Trump should be covered differently than Bush and Obama were that's fine, but it is, itself, an admission that the reason his campaign rally speeches are aired in full has nothing to do with the fact that he is the president
-
the argument you seem to be making is: you have to cover Trump's speeches a certain way because he is president, but you didn't have to cover other presidents' speeches that way because they weren't Trump
-
That is it exactly!

It was a campaign event. Cable news certainly covered neither Bush nor Obama with the same vigor. And let's not forget ignoring a Clinton event while showing an empty Trump podium.

"Previous presidents did not receive this type of coverage" "Well, Trump is a different so there are definitely differences in the coverage!" "What are those differences that make him worth covering differently?" "He's the president. Presidential events are news" K.

Trumps ego rally is not news. It's not information. It's a waste of time and money. An hour of trump lying is not news.

But you seem to agree B & O covered differently. So this isn't "presidential events," it's a judgment re "Trump presidential events."
-
And if the decision to air is based on a judgment about Trump, not just presidency, it seems fair to criticize for same reason.

Funny, I distinctly remember your station passing on airing Obama speeches. A lot. Is it just cuz Trump’s brand is chaos and chaos is good for ratings?

We were told many times that
@POTUS44 was overexposed, that Cablers didn't cover political rallies, that 'We'll keep monitoring and if POTUS said anything Newsworthy, we'll pipe back in'.....etc. Have you all No sense of decency by owning your Lies, Moving Goal Posts for Rs

How insulting that you ascribe an honest statement to a partisan preference. A campaign event is not a presidential event.

I was conscious during the election. Hillary events got a fraction of the live coverage, while getting the majority of the ‘but both sides BS’ garbage coverage while Trump waved shiny keys for the media chase. Weird you can still only find Trump voters just like in 2016

News. Yes. So you *cover* the news. By reporting it. Not by running it verbatim for 75 minutes. Does CNN cover any other person the way it does Trump? No. Certainly didn't cover Obama like this. Your critics are not just mad about Trump's presidency. It's about unequal treatment

I can't recall cable news running every live event Obama did. Did they?

I think presidential speeches are news events that should be shown live, but I understand the criticism and I wrestle with it myself.
