Give him a break @brianstelter. The sheriff was under a lot of pressure answering Jake’s tough questions and obviously chose the wrong word. Jake was great but sheriff has tried to be open & forthcoming in all news appearances including CNN Townhall.

Also, Jake was wrong to say sheriff attacked NRA at the Townhall - I watched it & that was unfair characterization. Sheriff was tough on Dana right after she said she was there to stand up for students - he replied she wasn’t there for students but for NRA/gun manufacturers.

Yes, they made mistakes. But you guys keep forgetting that even if they had done everything right, there is nothing they could do to separate this kid from his guns. You're making NRA points around the edges. LE errors must be addressed, but the law must be changed to save lives.
-
What are you talking about? The trained sheriff absolutely could have made an attempt to stop the shooter.
-
Sure, once the kid started shooting people. How about we not have several kids killed before the police are authorized to do something?
-
Well they had between 23-39 opportunities befor this happend. They failed.
-
That's my point. They didn't. They had no authority to take his guns as a result of any of those calls.
-
On Sept. 28, 2016, authorities were called to his home for “harming” his mother. Had he been charged with domestic violence , he would have become a prohibited possessor.
-
My understanding is that no one was ever willing to press charges. Even with the Baker Act, if the doctors and courts kept adjudicating him as someone who can't be sold a firearm, he could buy one at a gun show.
-
Charges are determined by the police/ prosecutors not the victims. It would be illegal if adjudicated and he did buy at a gun show. Further, FFL at gun shows still have to run the back ground check. It’s only private sellers that are not required, which is not how he bought.

The main problem with incompetence is it's inability to recognize itself.

Jake was shameful in his "interview". He shredded the sheriff. The NRA probably loved it. Dana Loesh deserved this type of interview.

I don't get this guy. Seemingly strong as an advocate for the kids, but undoing it all with his lack of accountability about his department's failings. Not exactly a portrait of courage or consistency.
