I don't think "ignore the crazies" is the right response to the conspiracy theories & smears about #Parkland... Here's why: http://bit.ly/2sHFzQ7 pic.twitter.com/IflghcPpdy

Lies have to be countered with truth. That's what John Stuart Mills' 'Marketplace of Ideas' was all abt. You didn't have to suppress lying, distorted speech bc 'the truth will out.' But if no one counters falsehoods w/documented truth, the lies fester w/same effect AS IF true.

The MSM are caught up w/the idea that to be objective &fair they have to treat 'both sides' the same way. But lies aren't 'just a different POV carrying the same value as truth. They are LIES and need to be treated that way. Their falsehood needs to be documented.

The SOP MSM approach to objectivity and fairness is saying you have to have the devil give his POV because you want to be 'objective' and his views, after all, are 'on the other side.' Edward R Murrow demonstrated how that SOP is BS decades ago in his response to Joe McCarthy.

I guess I've taken my journalism history too seriously -- or it simply isn't taught [or listened to much] -- cuz I am dumbfounded how much journalists today make the same mistakes they made back in the 50s while supposedly 'covering' McCarthy.

This cancer has been growing inside the GOP for decades. Liberals warned about it. Republican Party leaders cultivated it. Conservative media profited by it. And the mainstream media conspicuously ignored it. Now that cancer *is* the Republican Party.

Dude I like you a lot but when @cnn gives them airtime it’s not about ignoring it’s about giving them a platform. You can make the case without it.

Not sure that’s fair but @cnn might need to evaluate the lineups.

But it's also up to you to treat these things with the disdain they deserve. Forcing Dems into "So and so says [insert crazy theory], do they have a point?" debates, is NOT responsible journalism, and @cnn leans into it way too much.

CNN viewers most likely aren't getting sucked into the death spiral of articles on Facebook because they don't get their news from there. I really wish all networks/outlets would stop giving oxygen to the daily press briefings instead. There is ZERO value in those.

I have been accused by two well known media figures of being a George Soros paid propagandist. I am a servant to the public in mental health advocacy. I am a recovering journalist. I don't understand how they could confuse me for a propagandist at all. One was Dinesh D'Souza.
