Evidently, @nytimes ability to investigate & verify information is rather weak. Perhaps they should allocate resources to hire better investigative journalists.

It would seem the editorial board has this problem at least. The actual journalists in the newsroom are still capable of good work, at least when they’re not being dispatched to profile yet another Trump supporter.

You would think a cursory search of public social media history would be step 1 of a background check?
-
This is why so many people refuse to believe mainstream media. Please note, I despise Trump and the whole fake news thing but ffs. Her background was in plain sight.
-
The NY Times has some SERIOUS issues that have been exposed over the past two years. Issues that center on their editorial board and ownership. WaPo is much better.
-
That said, there are amazing investigative reporters who work for the NY Times. But leadership needs to have its entire house cleaned.
-
Maybe this is a good thing. This is the first time I can recall the New York Times management made a decision that was so bad they actually had to reverse it. I can't remember the last time they've admitted a mistake without shooting the messenger and insulting their readers.

You'd think they might have some 'reporters' if you will, to discover this type of thing.
-
It took Twitter users no time to figure it out. NyTimes should have at least tried.

Imagine, if you will, a business whose purpose was to Find Things Out, to call people or research or look things up, to find out what was really what. Now imagine one so desperate for credibility, it would hire someone well-known without finding out why they were well-known.

That employment lasted like a 1/10th of a Scaramucci. Impressive.

Was John Kelly doing the vetting?

"Opinion writer on the power of technology." Fitting.

Considering it took the internet a whole five minutes to uncover the truth, you might want to look into replacing the people who vetted her as well...

To be fair, the internet was filled with victims of her friend and KNEW who she is and what she tweeted in the past and signalboosted the fuck out of the news & her old tweets. They knew where to look for the tweets & made the most of it to shame NYT.

No doubt. She deserved it, just saying that NYT never knew about her infamous past & friends but the internet did & let everyone know about it. I knew about that jackass Nazi friend of her's not many netizens from back in the day didn't. But she was new to me.

Right, but it is the job of recruiters to look into people before hiring them and clearly this information was just a quick google search away...
