Calm, critical reminders by CNN's @richardquest on the air right now. These huge swings (down 1,000, then 1,500, now down 800, etc) are being caused by algorithmic tradinghttps://twitter.com/brianstelter/status/960606616210034690 …

The usual impossible to miss Fox News Stock Market scrawl is now POOF. Replaced by the world's tiniest little box. Usually that sucker is scrolling away day and night across the bottom of the TV Screen.

And also by the erratic behavior of the man putatively in charge. Markets don't like unpredictable behavior.

There are not large algos attached to the Dow index. Mostly to the S&P 500. Basically it could be a cause, but it's moving too fast to know for certain in real time.

Richard's voice is so calming as those soap bubbles of American prosperity pop and the rosy presidential glow diminishes.

So what you're saying is the stock market is a slot machine programmed with a screwed up algorithm, written by idiots, that occasionally goes haywire. Good to know. I wonder how that explanation would have gone over in 1929?

not an accurate statement at this time. It is possible the algorithmic trading is just exacerbating a crash being caused by something else. No evidence yet this is a purely algorithmic error

A hundred tweets today from CNN and it’s hosts about the drop. Barely made any uproar when it rose so high in one year. How can you live as such a negative person ?
