In February 2017, Michael Wolff wrote a column in Newsweek titled "Why the Media Keeps Losing to Donald Trump." http://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-versus-media-548562 … 1/

The column also expanded on a previous Wolff column in the Hollywood Reporter in which he wrote that the "media turned itself into the opposition." https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/michael-wolff-trump-win-exposes-medias-smug-failures-945733 … 3/

Steve Bannon, the star of Wolff's new book, used virtually the same phrase in a famous February 2017 interview with the New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/26/business/media/stephen-bannon-trump-news-media.html … "The media here is the opposition party." 4/

Then, in April, he chided @maggienyt for pursuing the "aberrant presidency" beat. 5/

And from what we are learning today: http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/01/michael-wolff-fire-and-fury-book-donald-trump.html … ...it seems that Wolff himself was doing just that: https://twitter.com/maggieNYT/status/948693404736786433 … 6/

A colleague just reminded me that one of Wolff’s gripes in his fixation on my coverage was deriding my beat as covering the “aberrant” presidency. The entire book, which I’ve read, goes way farther in that direction. https://twitter.com/erikwemple/status/948677294331256832 …

Wolff is incorrect here. The First Amendment of the US Constitution is under attack by Trump. To NOT defend the Press/Constitution would be failing to do a proper job.

but you’re attributing to Wolff something he didn’t say. He said the media doesn’t need defending by the media.

I mean that the media really does need to defend against bad media and bad reporting. In many instances, especially with Trump, some -not all- reporters/media/press don't hold him accountable or call him on his BS. Those ones are irresponsible and need to be called on it. imo

I agree that some don't call him on his BS. Equally, some go too early on stories and give him 'fake news' ammunition. Trump's admin and the GOP are trying to gaslight us. Given that the onus on the press to be accurate is very high. The danger of clickbait is now manifest.

The President is not at war with the media. It's the scumbag fake news people, such as yourself, that the President is at war with. People see right through distortions and made up stories. Just report the facts accurately.

Responding to what Wolff wrote: did the MSM start a war with Trump or were they just doing business as usual when we elected a media hog? Love your show Brian. Its one of my "must see," programs in this time where media became the enemy.
