That's my question, too. Not sure I buy a Habermas ideal of shared public sphere. When we had a wide range of print perspectives, how did we manage democracy then? With TV, that diversity disappeared. With the net it's back. So what now?

Hypermedia/Cubic Media sentence by sentence interface standards for source. < a good start. Every new story needs a sentence by sentence chain of verification. Reverse game of telephone.

Yes it is much work for reporters but every sentence should have a hyper footnote of chain of title/verification that viewers/readers can source. Whether video or written. Trust will be the new value/currency of exchange. Need to get back to that.

We pitched building a new standard for interactive notation through hyv (cubic media layering) to both @NiemanLab and @knightfdn several years ago multiple years and they turned us down year after year giving grants/fellowships to imho much less worthy/essential initiatives.

This is my philosophy 201 class: Hume vs. Kant. Hume = we have a shared reality. Kant = we don't. I loved Kant in college. After this year, I believe there must be a shared reality for us to live together in harmony (and not insanity).

I've said this for a while now: how can we heal this country when we can't even agree on what's real and true? We're pretty much screwed because a segment of the population has been conditioned for YEARS to believe lies. We used to laugh about FEMA camps. They didn't. 🙄
