Did your publication constantly run "Obama's fans still fans of Obama" during his presidency? If the answer is no, then why are you constantly running "Trump's fans still fans of Trump" stories now?

He stayed near 40% approval for much of 2014, not far off from where Trump sits now. And all we got then were stories about elderly white Tea Partiers who didn't like him. Same as when he was popular.

It seems the constant here isn't the president's popularity or unpopularity. Instead, it's a persistent belief in newsrooms that rural white conservatives are somehow always the best gauge of what "real Americans" think, no matter who's in office or how he's doing.

That’s not how I interpret these stories/segments at all. I appreciate hearing how others see it, though.

So many of us are tired of hearing from his 32% that believe he walks on water. CNN"s coverage of the Alabama election was similar--lots of interviews with Moore supporters & campaigners but little about Jones & his supporters. Hoping for more reporting diversity for '18 election

What's your theory for why the media didn't flood Obama strongholds for "Obama's voters still love him" stories during the darker moments of his Presidency?

Obama voters are not true blue patriots from the heartland. Our votes mean less due to the electoral college and the coverage reflects that.

These stories constantly let Trump voters talk nonsense about people - Muslims, Black people, their own neighbours - without correcting them or even *asking those people for comment*. A Reporting 101 task is neglected in service of Trump voters' feelings. https://twitter.com/paytonrules/status/945903695207772160 …
