I say who cares. Just keep reporting the truth. This is a dark period for science, facts, fairness, equality, justice, diplomacy, peace...all the things we hold dear. My message to journalists is not to be intimidated, speak the truth and carry on.

In fairness, the notion that reporters don't have personal viewpoints has always struck me as silly. That said professionals should and can separate the personal from their jobs to fairly report the news.

I agree with you. I think "agenda" is the key word in that polling question, however. It implies an attempt to advance political objectives, rather than merely holding a private view, right?

What if you replace agenda with "angle"? Then do you agree?

It's an interesting question, at least with respect to broadcast reporters, where so many appear on shows that do have a clear angle, if not agenda. Outlets like Morning Joe, Chris Hayes, not to mention FoxNews, etc. obviously come with a clear POV.

I think that is correct so far as the people/outlets you mention, but it's important to recognize that those people are a minority of the news media.

Agreed. But as a news consumer, I wonder if the near-constant appearance of print journalists on those shows doesn't have an impact. Daily, there are NYT, WashPost, WSJ, etc. reporters who appear. It's asking a lot of viewers to make those distinctions.

I think there is a path that can successfully be walked there, but I also think you make a valid, larger point -- that the media have been quite poor at making clear the distinction between news gathering and opinion/advocacy journalism.

Ironic this is being reported by a reporter who I'd bet my life that he voted Democrat(assuming he voted). He knows it's true.

Perhaps the fact that just 7% of journalist are Repubs drives the POV that journalist have an agenda. The MSM has become a leftwing sounding board where other views are simply not heard.https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2014/05/06/just-7-percent-of-journalists-are-republicans-thats-far-less-than-even-a-decade-ago/?utm_term=.a557f14ac92b …
