It's all about Matt. This statement is about his embarrassment, his shame, being humbled, and how blessed he is. If he wrote this it really is a clear picture of the illness which drives him to behave badly. I hope he gets well and never harms anyone else.

What should a statement have said instead? Every therapist that I’ve worked with has highlighted the importance of “I statements” instead of “You statements” when acknowledging things.
-
It should have been four or five sentences in which he said he takes full responsibility for his actions. Instead, he made his 'apology' about him.

It’s like he used an automatic pervert mea culpa generator.

I think this now becomes a private matter between him and the people he harmed. I don't believe we and the media needs to continue to shame him and throw stones at him. What he did was horrible! He is gone! Let's move on to the next one.

Couldn’t have said it better.

-
I am not quite sure what others who are critical of his statement would be happy with. Should we burn him at the stake maybe? Stone him to death?
-
No, but it’d be nice if his apology were 80-90% apology and 10-20% about himself instead of the other way around.
-
I have thought for years, just by the way Matt Lauer carried himself and by the way he behaved on the air that he was the kind of guy that everything was always "about him". He was just that kind of guy don't you think?
-
Beats me, I never watched those shows. But I do recall when Ann Curry got the boot, it was because they didn’t get along and he was the start of the show.
-
And to be fair- to go in front of millions of people on a regular basis requires a certain (very large) amount of self-confidence and attitude.
-
Self confidence is one thing, arrogance is wrong. He came across to me as arrogant & self centered. Just because you’re famous doesn’t mean you’re BETTER than anyone. You just have a different talent. It does not negate the talents of others that they aren’t “known”.

Hey Matt. You had a f***ing button under your desk.

You could take this sentence in two ways, and they’re both correct.

The soul searching only happens when they get outed?
