That's right. Local TV stations with broadcast antennas have FCC licenses. They're renewed every 8 years. Renewals are pro forma.https://twitter.com/gsorensen/status/918119530450378753 …

Do networks even have licenses? It's just the hundreds of local stations, right?

Yes, but NBC also has 11 owned-and-operated stations, including ones in all the largest markets.

The networks each own groups of stations. "O&Os" are enormously profitable, maybe more than the nets themselves. FCC regulates stations

So the stations owned by networks are regulatory pressure points.

FCC has been non-existent with the some of the vulgarity coming out on TV & Radio.

Fine, limit bad words but ALSO limit the violence to late evening. IMO even cartoons are too violent. And torture id too commonplace.

Trump, as a former star/showrunner for NBC, knows how the affiliate game works. He thinks he can leverage them for his ends by threats.

It is unlikely to work, and probably just an empty threat, but disturbing nonetheless.
