Facebook just announced something that might be a radical change to its ad biz. Key word: MIGHT. Here's my story... http://money.cnn.com/2017/09/21/media/facebook-political-ads/index.html …

Why not shut down all political ads. Online & tv. More debates, less mudslinging. I'm simplifying but less inflammatory ads would be a plus.

Meanwhile, Twitter allow bots to run rampant, apparently as part of their business model: they could easily crowd-source bot identification.

The majority of campaigns/political entities run hundreds (or thousands) of ads at a time. It won't be easy to find ads in the haystack.

Not to mention, campaigns will game the system knowing their ads can now be seen. And all competitors will now have intel on opponents.

The steps by FB are well intentioned, but not a solution. The unintended consequences platforms are facing are bigger than ever expected.

It's a start. Facebook must provide specifics. Political ads on social media should branded & sources as they are on other broadcast media.
