The point is to make sure the president and his staff face questions; answer them. Seems to me Trump's WH does. His choice how. He's POTUS.

I might not like it. But it's his presidency/term in office. That's the way the Constitution works. The press has no right to be on TV.

Why not? Seriously. There are many different ways of being president. The press can't dictate that. Trump and his staff answer a lot of Qs.

And almost every answer they give is a lie. What do you think the press and public can do to push back against that?

Tell the truth. Good information beats bad information. That's the theory of our democracy. In time, it'll work as it always has.

Why should the press insist on televised briefings as a matter of right? In an age of podcasts and social media and limitless text--why TV?

Liked your point an audio mp3 + transcript would do much the same. However, off the record briefings area BS.

I don't mind. It keeps the TV reporters from preening for the camera, though it's hard to gauge impact when the briefing is not serious.

The point of Q&A is to elicit a meaningful answer. Camera on or off, many tactics help: Reportorial, rhetorical, performative. Get an answer

Honestly, I don't know why this White House does briefings at all. The news comes from generous leaks, and the briefings are useless.
