This line of inquiry strikes me as absurd: Why would NYT want to open the story to competitors?

point taken. but i can easily see a scenario where a single source has shared the email, but in an off the rec/not yet reportable way...

No question. I'm just griping about that one suggestion that this was a strategic and intentional drip-drop operation by NYT.

It seemed to me like they were running what they had confirmed when they had it confirmed/one story necessarily aided reporting of the next.

because of the way Don Jr's statements changed over time. if the NYT had the emails all along, that's... notable.

Maybe, but it's a combination of what they had and what they told him.

I thought they rolled it out this way to corner the Trump WH and Don Jr. as they responded to each new tidbit of the overall. It worked!

They played it well, NYT gave just enough rope for the Thump 's & white house to hang themselves with more LIES, then Forced the chain dump

...and made it more difficult for Don, Jr to plead the 5th because he was the one who released the emails.

Would have been nice to be a fly on the WH wall when they learned NYT was still holding & tugging the end of rope with the full email chain🤣

Why was Natalia Veselnitskaya in a House Foreign Affairs Comm. hear. w/Michael McFaul? Real journalists would ask. Americans need to know.
