The burden of proof is on them, and they're not even HINTED at in original. Also, contradict historical record.

No denying that the unsubstantiated claim of add’l sources was developed after the publication of original story.
yes. the story should have been longer and included more sourcing info. it felt too tightly edited to me
even at its original length, first paragraphs aren’t sourced to anything or anyone at all! Just blind assertion.
I'm not defending that, but, Perry being a source is the kind of situation that would "cause" first grafs like that
