The Alex Jones of the world have already rejected Facebook's new effort to label hoaxes and fake news stories...http://money.cnn.com/2016/12/16/media/facebook-fact-checking/index.html …
.@brianstelter Looks like the "disputed" label doesn't show up in the mobile web version.pic.twitter.com/TWKEvIyFwy
Every post from Reliable Sources is going to have that tag on it Brian.
why? Show me a single story that you think deserves the label of "fake news", and why you think it's false.
"disputed" - still acting as if there are 2 sides to the story. This acts as validation. Makes the situation worse.
What about legit news site pages that display outrageous "You may also like" advertisements with phony clickbait headlines?
.@KenCox @brianstelter that's a different problem, and an interesting one. Those spammy links make a lot of money.http://fortune.com/2016/11/01/outbrain-taboola/ …
.@KenCox @brianstelter Google & Facebook announced they won't serve ads on sites deemed "fake", but those spammy links are on "real" sites.
.@KenCox @brianstelter 41 of the top 50 news sites use "content ads." Only 46% of links went to legit advertisers. http://changeadvertising.org/the-clickbait-report/ …
.@KenCox @brianstelter more details from the report: 26% of Outbrain/Taboola links were "clickbait", 89% of which were "anonymous" sites.
.@KenCox @brianstelter by "anonymous", they mean that the owners of the DNS domain name registered it through an anonymity service.
.@KenCox @brianstelter …like "Domains by Proxy", which is reasonable for an individual looking for privacy, but not for a corporate site.
.@KenCox @brianstelter So yeah, those spammy Outbrain & Taboola links are like an addictive drug that many publishers just can't quit.
Thank you to ABC news. We appreciate this. We trust ABC
