"Journalism, too, has grave failings." YES. Fake news still matters. Don't conflate criticizing modern with not vaccinating kids. Similar.
Hold on to institutions with an ethos of truth—in spite of their failings which we must work to fix—or watch nihilism consume them, and us.
People who did not follow the fake news flood and spike as it happened are missing what happened, writing post-hoc just-so stories. Alas.
I wish we had more systematic data. I've been following this stuff for a long time—there was a significant spike, change in tone and volume.
Hard to see whole landscape so I could be wrong but there was a flood in supply, and it didn't feel like same-old same-old.
