I think a lot of city centers could do without cars but also don't want it to devolve into a complete rejection outside cities of car ownership or the combustion engine.

We are not going to get there during this administration. Maybe local laws can be changed . Times has an excellent report on the current environmental regs.

Europeans city cores were built for pedestrians, so it will work fine in many cases. Most American cities are built for cars, so it will be a much greater challenge.

I wish we would do that in all urban centers and force fat cats to take the bus and subways. You would see a huge push to clean up those messes in urban centers.

Oslo wants more tourists. And they will get them. Good business, and another downtown more difficult and unfriendly for locals. We will all be tourists in our own cities. Nothing new, but business dressed as environment friendly.

Congestion pricing is stupid. Punish people like the railroads do? This city is filled with roads...do you think they were built for pedestrians? Slow people down, fix the roads & improve signage...everyone will be happier.
