One of the main reasons Fox has been able to have such an incredibly pernicious effect on America is that high profile media figures like @BrianStelter pretend for careerist reasons that it's a legitimate news outlet https://twitter.com/brianstelter/status/1059653664053346304 …pic.twitter.com/uPcvj0BP1o

fox news is multiple channels in one. the most popular part of fox is a right wing opinion channel. but there's also a news channel that employs journalists. some of those journalists are very unhappy and uncomfortable. but we shouldn't pretend like they don't exist.

In one sense this is true. And I don't knock the straight reporters trying to do real journalism at Fox News, which can't be easy. But even there, Fox execs put their thumb on the scale — the reports themselves may not be biased, but the choice of issues to be covered are.

Example: Fox devotes a huge block of its straight reporting to crime and immigration, and very little to Mueller or Trump cabinet scandals. Their reporting on all these could be 100% accurate and even then viewers would still see a distorted lens of what's going on in America.

Even when Fox notes indictments of Trump campaign officials, the fact they spend *so much less time on it* than CNN or MSNBC makes it easier for Fox's late night opinion lineup to say "There's no collusion, Mueller's found nothing!" It's less of a contradiction than it would be.

So yes, I do agree with you @brianstelter that for the most part, Fox's straight reporters practice journalistic ethics and fact-checking as much as anyone at any other network. But that's not the only way the network's bias can present itself. Media bias is a complicated thing.

It’s ridiculous that y’all continue to pretend CNN, ABC, CBS, and MSNBC aren’t hard left leaning.

My favorite part of this genre was the Birchers calling Dwight Eisenhower a communist, but this is good too

They stay there. Why? Their employer has no regard for their integrity or for journalism. Could it be because they, too, lack principle?

It’s probably because there are not a lot of job opportunities in TV news and a national network is pretty much the highest you can get in that industry. They have to eat and pay rent just like the rest of us.

Whole heartedly agree... I personally couldn't stay and would go back to cleaning asses in a nursi g home if that's what I had to do to keep my personal integrity intact. But I try to remind myself not every ticks the same way I do

I probably wouldn’t choose anything involving poop over Fox News because I’m squeamish, but I would definitely look elsewhere if I was in that position.

Lol last week on "Fox Business" they had a segment on whether or not Jesus would have endorsed the migrant caravan. Spoilers, they said he would be against it, and cited Paul as the rationale. The whole Fox brand is propaganda wrapped in rural white identity politics.

I'm ok if we shame them for lending their credibility to lend (im)plausible deniability to propagandists.
