Sigh. I really wish people like that spent as much time blaming right-wing echo chamber that undermined science and reporters/news outlets that enabled it all with false balance as they do scapegoating Gore.

The problem with that person's assessment is that...it isn't about Gore. The same thing would have happened with or without Gore. The right-wing would have found another strawperson and the false balance would have helped propel it.

John McCain authored cap and trade bills in 2003 and 2005, and the GOP platform in 2008 acknowledged the need to solve the "climate change problem." The quote is ahistorical; the GOP abandoned sound science after he lost.

Incidentally, Fox News didn't turn on climate change until 2006.https://www.mediamatters.org/research/2012/10/24/timeline-fox-news-role-in-the-climate-of-doubt/190906 …

To me that sounds like searching for an excuse not to listen - they want a reason not to believe and so, as its Al Gore, it becomes "Liberal Conspiracy". If he hadn't been liberal, they would have found something else.

Agreed. There was no one specific advocate for the “immunize your kids so they won’t die” message, but that still somehow became a “liberal conspiracy”. It’s more the anti-science, anti-education policy the @GOP adopted to woo the Southern Democrats back in Reagan’s day.

Sad that people have to be spoon fed basic information by their preferred source. It did not turn "everyone" off. Only republicans. Don't try to blame it on Gore. Who was pretty much a centrist. Blame yourselves for refusing to listen.

Funny how the "messenger" of whatever policies the GOP doesn't like always turns out to be the "wrong" man or woman. You'd almost think something else was going on.

But al Gore won the popular vote! Our world would have been a very different place. Hillary won the popular vote! Our world would be in a very different place. I don’t think the electoral college does a very good job at picking presidents.
