Yesterday this Colbert writer tweeted, "Whatever happens, I'm just glad we ruined Brett Kavanaugh's life." Today she says she regrets the "tone-deaf attempt at sarcasm:" https://twitter.com/ArielDumas/status/1048965634380521472 …

Why quote tweet it then? Do you feel like it was worth bringing attention of her harassment to an audience that’s over 10 times bigger than hers? Do you feel no responsibility for the acceleration of her harassment?
-
And if you suspect some were trolling and some weren’t, why not specify that originally rather than take their argument at face value while tweeting about her apology to a large audience?
-
Agree with you mike. Also his tweet seems to convey that her original intent wasn’t sarcasm when it very clearly was. Poor wording.

Brian’s tweet is pointless & irresponsible. I still get death/rape threats a year after “amplification” of backlash to a tweet I wrote about respecting women. His snark in the replies shows he doesn’t get what happens to women online. He can tweet whatever he wants & feel safe.
-
Shame on those attackers and shame on Twitter. But with all due respect, I've spoken at length on TV and in public settings about the threats I receive, and how they pale in comparison to what women and minorities experience. Here is one of the examples.https://www.cnn.com/videos/cnnmoney/2018/08/05/brian-stelter-journalists-receiving-death-threats-vpx.cnn …

Then shame on you, too. To completely neglect that you have had a role in directing abuse towards her is hugely disappointing. Saying you understand online abuse towards women is more intense makes it even worse that you did it and won’t just apologize
-
Also, her tweet was a joke. It was clearly a joke. As a joke writer, she is used to a range of reactions. I don’t think you have to be a genius to see that the apology is because trolls were threatening to hurt her or get her fired. Reposting w/o that context is bad “reporting”
-
Guys, guys, I think we can all agree Brian is the real victim here. (That was sarcasm.)

Okay but if you scroll down the replies to her follow up, people are harassing and threatening her *right now,* and you helped to amplify that and direct harassment her way.

A fucking bad joke was newsworthy!!! What about immigrant children still in cages and not reunited despite a court order? What about the NFL harassment on its African American players? What about police brutality? I have a list of more newsworthy things!

That wasn’t at all clear - I thought you were ripping her. You’ve explained that wasn’t your intent and I fully believe you, but that’s how it read to me, and evidently many others...

Just looked at thread on her apology. All bots with 20 or fewer following...the people talking shit against Ariel. Plenty of bad English as well, but in the USA, that's not clear enough sign.

Maybe try being equally hard on the other side? It would help my blood pressure.
