Yesterday this Colbert writer tweeted, "Whatever happens, I'm just glad we ruined Brett Kavanaugh's life." Today she says she regrets the "tone-deaf attempt at sarcasm:" https://twitter.com/ArielDumas/status/1048965634380521472 …

why elevate this and open her up to more harassment from people intentionally misreading a joke?

I think you're raising an issue that can't be solved in 280 chars, which is, should reporters NOT point out something noteworthy because this platform is such hell that reporting (in this case a tweet) causes further harm? If so, we should all quit this platform, yes?

if anything, i think the noteworthy thing here would be finding out whether someone at CBS got played by a vindictive, bad faith campaign and forced a writer to apologize for a very easy to understand joke

Yeah. Put that in the tweet. This is magnifying their propaganda, not reporting. It's like when you just repeat the lie instead of reporting that they lied about something. CALL THE LIES LIES RIGHT AT THE TOP.

Indeed. Put that in a tweet. Jesus, this is like talking to a brick wall. Seeing as the common sense, obvious truth is what you’ve omitted, I have to assume you’re complicit in the lie.

Why on Earth do you consider a comedy writer making a joke on Twitter to be noteworthy? It's only noteworthy because of the bad-faith attacks on her, which again, you don't need to signal-boost.

Hi Brian. I’m thinking it is far more newsworthy that Trump and his family committed massive tax fraud & financial crimes. If I were a journalist, I’d focus my energies there.

It's not noteworthy that a comedy show writer made a joke. If it was noteworthy, you would have framed it as such rather than in such a way as to invite backlash for the obvious joke.

Her job is to make jokes. That’s not noteworthy at all. She apologized when she shouldn’t have most likely because she was forced to. THAT is noteworthy.
