Leaving aside whether CNN and Senator Hatch’s staff need to be teaming up against a Colbert writer, how could it be anything other than sarcasm?https://twitter.com/brianstelter/status/1048981027568402438 …
when did i "treat it as if it's legitimate?" what's noteworthy is that she expressed regret

Proper context would entail boilerplate to the effect of, "Right wing figures with far greater influence - all the way up to and including the President - issue statements just as and often more controversial every day, without apology (or even demand for it) from most quarters."

Also noteworthy is what prompted her regret - the bad faith attacks on her from the right who deliberately take her words as anything but sarcasm.

You understand that your news source is considered a legitimizing force right? So you get that you’re never unbiased, and what you choose to report on, since there is an endless supply of stories, ends up forming a narrative, right? Do they teach that? Are you really this dense?

To those giving Brian a hard time. While the right wing backlash was occurring, Brian would not mention the subject. When they expressed regret Brian tweeted about it. Brian is still a good liberal, you can keep him. We dont really want him.
