Leaving aside whether CNN and Senator Hatch’s staff need to be teaming up against a Colbert writer, how could it be anything other than sarcasm?https://twitter.com/brianstelter/status/1048981027568402438 …

"teaming up against a Colbert writer?" gimme a break. i posted something because there was a significant right wing backlash to her tweet. clearly she or CBS felt she needed to address it.

I meant no more than that right wing voices held up a relatively powerless and arbitrarily chosen individual’s tweet for scorn and pillory and in so doing attracted coverage critical of the individual from a CNN reporter.

At a certain point, repeating a bad faith attack is the same as endorsing it, no matter how many times you say RT aren’t endorsements

follower counts are not accurate. only a tiny, tiny fraction of that 600,000 # see my tweets. but putting that aside, i take responsibility for all my tweets.

Treating this as an isolated incident and not a particularly ugly and cowardly salvo in an ongoing culture war is malpractice for a media commentator

Feels like you are magnifying a non-story to appease right-wing critics who view you as a left-wing hack. If her job is the cost of your quest to appear sufficiently "both sides," then rock on man, keep at it. Just feels wrong.

magnifying a non-story... how? did i cover it on TV in front of a million viewers? did i write a whole story about it? no, i posted a single tweet. seems like the opposite of magnifying to me.

Proper context would entail boilerplate to the effect of, "Right wing figures with far greater influence - all the way up to and including the President - issue statements just as and often more controversial every day, without apology (or even demand for it) from most quarters."
