The NYT's @SusanneCraig says this investigation was, without a doubt, the hardest story she's ever done. "Imagine someone tossing a million white puzzle pieces into Times Square and being asked to put it back together..." https://mailchi.mp/cnn/rs-oct-2-2018 …

Although, let's admit it, most couldn't prove it. It was just rumor and gossip. (I mean, if you go by that, even those of us in flyover territory knew all that too.) Documentation and proof is a whole other thing.

susanne craig explained on msnbc tonight that the story began when rachel maddow first reported on trump’s 2005 tax return, which was march 2017. the last info NYT/craig had on trump’s tax returns dated back to 1995, and the disparities b/w that and 2005 return were red flags.

Heard that. Outraged that this was not researched and reported in 2016.

it took longer for this to be investigated than it did for trump to run the race (567 days vs. 511); and the info jumpstarting the tax investigation didn’t come out until 126 days After the election. w/o time travel and shoddy reporting, i’m not sure it was possible for 2016.

but... they’re calling Themselves out for their role in contributing to trump’s wealth myths, going back to 1976. ?? nvm all that tho; let’s imagine this Did come out in time for the 2016 vote. do you think it would have changed the minds of the white women who elected him?

No. Well maybe some. 600,000 votes in MI, PA, WI went to 3rd party candidates.. If maybe 12% of those had better info?

if the hollywood access tape didn’t do it, four weeks before the election, i can’t imagine how a story like this would have succeeded either. “whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.” let’s hope it unfolds with indictments.

In Detroit we would still have Kwame Kilpatrick without the @freep. Without NY Times and Washington Post @realdonaldtrump would go unchecked. Every city needs a newsroom.

@realDonaldTrump complains bitterly about the failing infrastructure in America but is a prolific tax evader. Whose taxes should be used to 'maga'?

I’m grateful for the tenacity and commitment these journalists used to document what most thinking people suspected all along: The man is a lying, cheating exploiter and cares only for self enrichment.
