It’s not him, it’s a system. Was in place under Obama. It’s an emergency management tool.

What do you want to bet Trump's minions are doing everything they can to get their hands on that list of every cell number in America? This has abuse of power written all over it

This has vital emergency management and homeland security tool written all over it. Unfortunately, I can’t help who the president is. I must make sure people in my state know what test is about. Wireless industry says there is no way feds can collect phone numbers from this test.

It uses the same network as for Amber Alerts. Except: federal law gives POTUS exclusive authority to direct (or delegate) release of a national msg over all channels (almost) when there is an imminent state of war or MASSIVE disaster. Right. And to Trump an imminent emergency might be him deciding he needs to tell everyone that Obama sucks and has wiretapped him. You know Trump will abuse it given the chance

In my job I cannot let my dislike of Trump cloud my view. Unfortunately, too many in the public let their hate for him ignore facts. Other side did the same with Obama.. I have no use for any of those people. I just need to provide good info to MD residents.

are you ignoring the facts that Trump has misused power in many ways already? Who would stop him if he wanted to start sending campaign ads over that system?

On behalf of emergency managers everywhere, THANK YOU FOR THIS REPORT. It is very hard for us to get this message out while many of our colleagues are dealing with Florence. Every person who heard your report today is one more ready for Thursday.

I’m fine with a FEMA alert or from a cabinet member. I don’t want a “presidential” 50 word text with 12 lies. His current social media is nonstop abuse and lies.

Obama had this capability. Not tested until now. Potus cannot 'send texts.' He directs the military WHCA Presidential Communications Officer to release a message via the FEMA Operations Center. Its purpose: Telling you to tune radio & TV. A presidential msg will follow shortly.

This would be natl emergency. Law allowing this has been around over 50 years. POTUS address has always been must-carry. EAS is only known way for POTUS to do live address while airborne. Phone msg gives you a few minutes to get to TV. All programming would be interrupted.

Brian you know he will use it improperly to send political messages instead of emergency messages that FEMA itself can send. And give his “official” numbers on damages and death total. It’s a total sham.
