I’m just one random twitter person (have subscribed to the
@NewYorker since I was in high school) but I won’t be renewing my subscription when it comes time in a few weeks. I don’t know what Remnick was thinking in inviting Bannon. - 1 more reply

I have no regard for Steve bannon and his “politics”. But whatever happened to free speech. Also if you’re at the same event but not partaking in his discussion why do people think they are associated and need to remove themselves.
-
Newsflash: Free speech goes both ways. The New Yorker has a perfect right to invite whomever they like to speak. And people also have a right to vehemently object to their choice and boycott the event because they don't want to be associated with an event making that choice.
-
I don’t think one should have to do with the other in regards to being associated to bannon. Removing themselves from the venue is challenging his right to free speech in my opinion. There used to be civil discourse and no longer is that the case. Him being one of the reasons..
-
First, the right to free speech applies only to the gov't. Second, no one was denying him the right to speak: deciding not to appear at an event sponsored by an organization providing a platform for someone to promote hate and prejudice doesn't prevent that speaker from speaking.
-
You need to educate yourself on what freedom of speech means before you keep replying.
-
LOL! Do explain how "the right to free speech pertains only to the government" and "refusing to appear on the same bill as someone whose speech you find abhorrent has nothing to do with free speech and does not prevent that person from speaking" are incorrect.

I think it is a bot
-
I don't think so: too convoluted to be a bot, and I don't think it's a standard subject they'd be familiar with. Many Americans are similarly ignorant about what the First Amendment actually protects.

Good for him. Shunning and boycotting seem to be some of the few effective tools these days.

I don't know who "Mulaney" is but he sounds both intolerant and intellectually inferior.
-
He’s hilarious and you should check out his standup. And he doesn’t want to share a stage or normalize a white supremacist
