Twitter execs are thinking about how to help users follow topics and hashtags, not just people. They're also rethinking things like follower counts and "likes." But they're vulnerable to criticism that the company is long on questions, short on answers...https://money.cnn.com/2018/08/19/media/twitter-jack-dorsey-reliable-sources/index.html …

Was overwhelmingly clear in the interview that @jack wants automated solutions, but it's very hard (Twitter's certainly failed thus far) to come up with automated approaches that can't be gamed by bad faith actors.

It’s also not possible to fix things without automated solutions. There are 3300 Twitter employees and half a billion tweets per day. But if we want to talk about manual solutions, I’m of the opinion they should discontinue access by API, or only grant keys with read access.

There's room for a mix of solutions, but I think the nature of the problem requires a comfort with ambiguity that is not common among tech leaders. There have to be judgment calls, and that's what it seems Jack is avoiding.

That’s because these media companies don’t want answers, they want clicks. They’re not going to voluntarily burn resources to figure out how to reduce traffic to the site. It’s not of their business model.
